WHITE FILLINGS Do your fillings have mercury in them? This is another commonly asked question. All dental amalgams contain mercury, though this reacts with other metals to form an alloy. There is currently no evidence to suggest that dental amalgam is in the least way detrimental to your health despite some alarmist reporting. Dental amalgam is still the best material for larger fillings in back teeth as it is relatively inexpensive, lasts a long time and has a good track record. All the amalgam we use is pre-proportioned in capsules to ensure complete safety. If you are concerned about amalgam fillings there are alternatives available such as gold or porcelain/composite inlays which provide excellent restorations, though these alternatives are more expensive than amalgam. |
